The darts club has been in existence for the past two year and is held under careful supervision by Mr. Tomás McGettrick to ensure safety at all times. We have a darts league and all students are invited to compete in friendly matches throughout the school year, culminating in a high-energy championship. While the darts themselves draw excitement, it’s the method of scorekeeping that offers the greatest educational benefit: students are required to calculate their own scores manually, without the help of calculators.
This rule turns every match into a subtle math lesson, helping students sharpen their mental arithmetic and problem-solving skills. Subtracting scores, calculating averages, and managing the countdown from 501 or 301 to zero all contribute to a stronger understanding of basic and advanced numerical operations.
The league has quickly grown in popularity, attracting a wide range of participants and even a loyal group of student spectators. Students appreciate the chance to learn outside a traditional classroom environment.
What started as a fun lunchtime activity has now become a celebrated part of the school calendar, proving that sometimes, the best learning happens when you don’t even realise you’re doing it.
