Senior Cycle

There are six programmes that Senior Cycle students can choose from:

Transition Year (TY)

Leaving Certificate Established (LCE)

Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP)

Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA)

Senior Cycle Level 1  Programme (SCL1LP)

Senior Cycle Level 2 Learning Programme (SCL2LP)

In some cases students can have a mix of programmes.

Senior Cycle students may follow a two-year Leaving Certificate programme or they may take an additional optional Transition year at the start of their senior cycle.

Students taking the Leaving Certificate Established examination at the end of their senior cycle will study seven subjects, four of which are the students’ choice from the list below. In Scoil Muire agus Pádraig, all our senior cycle students who follow the Leaving Certificate Established programme also follow the Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP) in which they study two additional Link Modules: Preparation for the World of Work and Enterprise Education.

Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) students follow a pre-vocational programme made up of a range of courses that are structured round three elements: Vocational Preparation, Vocational Education and General Education.

The Senior Cycle Level 1 Learning Programme and the Senior Cycle Level 2 Learning Programme are follow on programmes for students who are  progressing from Level 1 Learning Programmes (L1LPs) and Level 2 Learning Programmes (L2LPs) at junior cycle.
