Home School Liaison Scheme

Scoil Muire agus Pádraig is part of the Home School Community Liaison scheme of the Department of Education and Skills.

Scoil Muire agus Pádraig has a full-time Home School Community Liaison officer, Mr. Richard Bourke. Mr. Bourke works in partnership to support parents. The purpose of the partnership is to enhance students’ learning opportunities and to promote their retention at school.

The goals of the HSCL scheme are to:

  • Support marginalised pupils
  • Promote co-operation between home, school and community
  • Empower parents in the educational process
  • Retain young people in education

Mr. Bourke meets with parents at home and/or at school. Mr. Bourke also liaises with voluntary and statutory agencies in the community to minimise educational disadvantage and works with primary schools in the catchment area to ease the student’s transition from Primary to Secondary school. The development and building of positive, trusting relationships with families is seen as the cornerstone of the Home School Community Liaison scheme. A Parents Room was developed in October 2014 in Scoil Muire agus Pádraig. The HSE has offered a number of extremely successful Positive Parenting courses which have been well attended. These courses and meetings with parents ensure that there is a strong partnership between school, home and parish thereby enabling our young students to achieve their true potential.
