Scoil Muire agus Pádraig has a rich tradition of hospitality and so it is no surprise that our school has a strong mentor system in place. Our Mentors are chosen from our 5th year class. Our Mentors remember their introduction to Scoil Muire agus Pádraig and the positive experience that it was. So having experienced the mentoring programme themselves, they in turn want to help our 1st year students in their first few days in Scoil Muire agus Pádraig and to enable our new 1st year students to transition seamlessly from their various primary schools into our secondary school, Scoil Muire agus Pádraig.
Whether a student is coming from a small, medium or large primary school, the first few days of secondary school can be a little daunting and our mentors are trained to deal with most questions that 1st year students have.
The Mentors meet with the incoming First Year students on their first day. The new students are put into groups of approximately five students per mentor and they then take part in ice breaking activities in large groups and in their mentor groups. During the first few days the mentors are available to bring the new students to their different classes until the new students become accustomed to the lay out of the school and become familiar with reading the timetable and organising their books at the locker etc.
