Student Support Team
The Student Support team is composed of the Principal, Mr. Pat Dunne, the Deputy Principal, Ms Ciara O’Shea, the Career Guidance teacher, Ms Siobhan Kenny, the Home School Liaison Officer, Mr. Richard Bourke and the School Completion Project Worker, Ms Avril Dempsey. The Pastoral Care team meets each Monday morning to identify students that may require additional support. This support can take a number of forms and includes psychotherapy which is made available where appropriate and in consultation with parents/guardians. Ms Teresa Burke is a very experienced teacher and systemic psychotherapist who provides a high level of support to our students. The work of the Pastoral Care Team ensures that there is a coherent approach which will provide the maximum benefit to the students. The overall goal is to ensure that all students in Scoil Muire agus Pádraig are enabled to complete their studies and to achieve their true potential.
Our students know to look out for one another and our students know that if a one notices a friend or classmate who appears down or they feel is being treated unfairly, that it is their responsibility to come and tell an adult about it. Our students know that the adult could be a member of the pastoral care team or indeed any teacher that the student feels they can talk to. Our teaching staff and ancillary staff are also very sensitive to changes in our students. It is through both these avenues that the pastoral care team get to know about student problems and the team then deals with it in a way that they feel is best for that student.
